Solar Charge to Real Zero
Solar PV for EV Charging, LMI Housing & Community Solar:
GCarbon Coin, Sustainable Building Blocks, and Solar Charge to Real Zero have teamed up to develop a program to deliver technology and management for producing zero emission housing, electricity, transportation and data searches. Our strategies for community owned microgrids and direct connections of PV to EV will allow community solar do more than just provide zero emission electricity & transport, but also be a driver for economic development in the region. We will build a network of 33 projects in Southwest and Plains states where technologies and strategies will be implemented at scale to shift society quickly to a zero emission lifestyle. Elements include the following:
- We will propose a 1 to 5 MW solar PV, wind & battery systems in each community to start that can build up to 50 MW depending on the increased demand for energy for housing/buildings, EV charging or a data center.
- System will consist of a ground or large building mounted PV array that is linked to state-of-the-art battery systems to provide power for most or all of the electrical requirements in the microgrid
- Community ownership of the system will be proposed through co-investment, tax credit cashout and low interest loans and by getting subscription agreements to utilize power being produced.
- The microgrid will not rely on utility distribution of power but will put the project under a shared ownership model where co-investment leads to a share of electricity produced at the least cost.
- Solar PV and battery storage in utility scale systems is now the lowest cost electricity resource (4.5 c/kWh) and all areas targeted in this project have lots of solar resources to meet demands. Any power shortfalls will be met through interconnection to the grid but the grid demand for power is expected to be very low.
- The use of microgrids and batteries eliminates the need for utility distribution of electricity so that savings can be passed on to community solar, affordable housing, EV charging and data customers. We will also eliminate wait time for interconnection to grids and demand charges for high loads such as quick charging.
Affordable Housing & Super Efficient Fireproof Buildings:
- We will work with State, Indigenous and local housing authorities to demonstrate the feasibility of building super-efficient zero emission homes that are also fireproof using locally produced high refraction materials
- Block manufacturing will occur in 1-2 locations in each state we are working in that will use locally available clay (65%), cement (15%) and special materials (20%) to produce blocks with high refraction characteristics and special Lego block design that provide the ability to repel fire & withstand extreme weather conditions.
- The block & tile production process uses very little energy by replacing firing with a pressure process. When this is combined with the low energy materials, the resulting building has very low embedded Co2 emissions.
- The use of these blocks and tiles will allow for construction of a 1000 sq. ft. buildings for under $70.000 that includes high efficiency heat pump, thermal shutters and a special design to optimize comfort & energy use.
- We are targeting construction of homes initially in the same area as community solar so that electricity comes from solar and batteries at the least cost and the building has zero emissions from energy use
- We will also work with housing districts to use the same technologies to other areas where housing is being built as well as working with businesses and governments to retrofit buildings with special stucco coatings.
Zero Emission Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging:
- A major objective of the project is to set up a network of 33 EV charging stations/truck stops in 9 states to charge cars and trucks with electricity provided directly from solar PV arrays & batteries at the same location
- This greatly reduces the cost of obtaining electricity for charging, since this eliminates large demand charges now being charged by utilities and also results in true zero emission vehicles instead of 52% lower emissions
- By 2030 when the network is fully built out, there are expected to be 30 million EV’s. We will have the only true zero emission charging network relying on locally produced solar, wind and batteries using microgrids.
- The community will be given an opportunity to co-invest in the solar power and EV charging network through a crypto coin offering, investment by businesses with an interest in the project and from getting grants/loans
Community Solar in States or Tribes Where it is of Interest Using Special Purpose New Non-Profit:
- An important project goal is to involve the communities in the project by setting up a non-profit that involves all 33 sites and seeks participation by various civic groups, housing districts and local government leaders.
- The goal of the non-profit is to promote the immediate achievement of real zero emission electricity, transportation, housing and data searches by linking solar PV directly to EV charging stations, super-efficient housing, data centers and commercial loads through co-ownership of the PV array, batteries & microgrid.
- Three out of 9 states allow third party community solar subscriptions to solar projects where we have many of our charging stations. Our focus in these states will be to set aside community solar for part of PV capacity
- We will actively seek subscribers through a non-profit organization being created to initiate community solar projects and incorporate other social and environmental elements in the solar PV development plan.
- Non-profit “Solar Charge to Real Zero” will ask community residents both their interest in solar subscriptions and their opinion on how to best address energy security, climate change, job growth & other issues
- The non-profit will also play a key role in promoting affordable housing in the project plan and demonstrate how the design of ground mounted PV solves issues with zero emission transportation & building affordability
- One third of our projects are in tribal lands where sovereignty allows for community solar projects. We will focus on explaining how projects can lower utility costs while also stimulating local economic development
- The non-profit will also ask if the US tribal communities have an interest in teaming up with indigenous tribes in the Amazon region to propose carbon credits be used to provide the last percent of emission reductions for housing & EV charging from solar by helping them stop & enforce illegal mining and logging and undergo similar shifts to sustainable technology for energy, food production & transportation.
Economics, Jobs, Tax Credits & Compelling Justifications to Participate:
- Production cost for utility scale PV vs. rooftop PV is about 1/3rd the cost. Coupling development of community solar using ground mounted arrays at large capacity with interconnection to housing will greatly reduce the cost of solar. Typical rooftop solar cost for 5 KW is about $35,554 while the same 5 KW can be delivered for $10.000 by co investing in GCarbon Coin solar array.
- Tax credits in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) are 30% as a baseline but can reach up to 70% if there are disadvantaged communities benefiting and low income housing is a recipient of solar PV power. Non-profits, community groups and Native American tribes can receive a cash refund instead of tax credits allowing for rapid repayment of investment and much lower interest rates on the balance. This means low-cost electricity
- Tax credits for batteries in disadvantaged communities (10%) may be deleted from the 2025-26 budget based on DOE initial recommendations. This would suggest the need to complete a project in the next year.
- Construction of housing that has high resistance to hurricanes, tornadoes, hail and fire while also providing a very tight thermal envelope means the building will be much more comfortable, sustainable and safe.
- Bringing more visitors to the community via an electric truck & car stop will mean more jobs, revenue and business for various companies that rely on visitors & tourism. Casinos will also be major beneficiaries. Flying J estimates 7 full time jobs are created for each facility built in a community.
- Producing building materials locally from clay and cement and manufacturing blocks and tiles will lead to low embedded carbon super-efficient materials but will also create hundreds of jobs from material manufacturing, building construction and growth in demand as the state sees the benefits of materials.
- Community solar and GCarbon provide mechanisms for community ownership via a crypto coin and through shared investment in the solar array and EV charging and through subscriptions and community solar. The community will also be setting an example of how to reach zero emission housing, energy, transportation and data searches by investing in self sufficient renewable energy & housing.
Financing Alternatives & Broader Community Building to Offset Last % of Emissions & Generate Excitement:
- An important outreach mechanism to reach critical mass and generate seed capital for projects and to achieve the last % of carbon reductions to get to zero is the GCarbon Coin & Co2 credits for saving jungles.
- A coin issuance is planned once some planning has been completed and some buildings built that will monetize a portion of the value of projects through a tradable asset backed crypto coin. This will allow micro-investors to own a piece of the development projects and be a proponent for community solar & EV’s
- Local community members wanting to own a piece of the solar/EV charging facility or to use facilities set up will be given free airdrops and have early stage opportunities to obtain coins to meet community solar goals.
- One important element is the GCarbon Meme which will create digital art pieces jungle and forest preservation and renewable energy use that will increase in value as artists capture google earth space over solar PV projects, community solar, EV charging, zero emission data centers, intact jungles or tree planting.
- Native groups in USA will be linked to Indigenous Tribes in the Amazon region countries to have them co-promote preservation of forests/jungles using carbon credits and aggressive efforts to stop illegal logging.
- Carbon credits will also be earned from planting native trees on Amazon edge to provide jobs & green fuel
- Co2 credits will offset the last % of carbon from homes, PV, EV charging & businesses in USA through cooperative alliances and direct information exchanges
Involving Major Corporations in Zero Emission Transportation, Building, Electricity & Data Search Initiatives
- Major global corporations are heavily invested in shifts to renewable energy and transportation but have not fully committed to getting to zero emissions in the near future. This creates huge problems in getting to zero.
- Auto companies are shifting to electric and hybrid electric vehicle production but are resistant to discuss the life cycle carbon emissions of electric vehicles & trucks and any comprehensive effort to really get to zero.
- Load growth from data centers to meet AI requirements are offsetting any benefits from energy efficiency so that growth in electrical demand is exceeding renewable energy ramp up. This results in the need to keep open gas and coal plants and re-open nuclear plants that have high costs, pollution and risks.
- We are proposing to data center companies the concept of putting some of their new data center capacity in locations where there is community solar projects planned so that solar, wind & battery capacity can meet load demands of data centers. We will also promote zero emission AI searches
- We are proposing to car companies that they support use of the charging network by their customers when on road trips or if there is a fast charger in the neighborhood. This will allow for true zero emission travel.
- We are proposing to electric truck manufacturers and major users that the electric trucks recharge at the 33 initial community PV to EV charging stations on the PV Solar Super-Highway. This will justify investments in electric trucks since they will achieve zero emissions, while having charging capacity in 33 locations.
